On my recent trip to Belgium, I completely fell in love with its breathtaking cities. Every place I visited had its own unique charm. Whether I was wandering through the picturesque canals, soaking in the artsy energy, or climbing historic towers for panoramic city views, I was constantly amazed by the beauty and diversity of this small yet incredible country. There’s a city here that will capture your heart. This guide will take you through the 10 best cities in Belgium that deserve a spot on your itinerary.

1. Brussels – The Heart of Europe

Brussels is a blend of history, politics, and culture, wrapped in stunning architecture, world-class chocolate, and an unbeatable beer scene. It’s a must-visit for any traveler and the perfect launchpad for your Belgian adventure.

• Explore Grand Place – Surrounded by opulent guildhalls and the magnificent Town Hall, it’s easily one of Europe’s most picturesque spots. When I first stumbled upon the Grand Place at night, the golden light reflecting off of the buildings took my breath away. If you plan your visit just right, you can catch the Flower Carpet event, a stunning display that takes over the square every two years in August, turning it into a vibrant sea of blooms. 
• Visit the Atomium – Picture a giant metal molecule, but make it futuristic. That’s the Atomium. Built for the 1958 World’s Fair, it’s now an iconic symbol of Brussels. Inside, you’ll find science exhibits, and the panoramic viewing deck offers unbeatable city views.
• Indulge in Belgian waffles and chocolate – No trip to Brussels is complete without sinking your teeth into a warm, crispy waffle smothered in chocolate, fruit, or my personal favorite: ice cream. And if you’re a chocoholic, you’re in the right place—stop by world-famous shops like Pierre Marcolini or Neuhaus for pralines that will ruin all other chocolates for you.
• Dive into the beer scene – Brussels is a dream for beer lovers. The legendary Delirium Café has over 2,000 beer varieties (yes, really), so whether you’re into strong Trappist ales or a refreshing lambic, there’s something for everyone.

Bruges feels like a medieval fairytale come to life and is one of the most enchanting cities in Belgium. Whether you’re walking along the canals, savoring a Belgian beer in Markt Square, or admiring centuries-old buildings, it’s impossible not to fall in love with this enchanting city.

• Wander along the canals – Bruges’ canals wind through the city, creating a postcard-perfect setting. As you stroll, you’ll pass historic bridges, colorful houses, and tucked-away courtyards that make the town feel truly magical.
• Climb the Belfry of Bruges – This iconic bell tower dominates the skyline and offers one of the best panoramic views in Belgium. My legs were burning after the 366 narrow steps, but the view made it all worth it. 
• Soak in Markt Square – The lively heart of Bruges, Markt Square is lined with colorful gabled buildings and bustling cafes. Grab a seat at an outdoor terrace, order some classic Belgian frites with mayo, and just soak up the atmosphere.

• Stroll along the Graslei and Korenlei – These two historic quaysides are some of the most beautiful streets in Belgium, lined with centuries-old guild houses. The sunset is magical from here, with the golden light reflecting off the canal, turning everything into a painter’s dream.

I spent hours walking around just soaking in all of its beauty. 
• Shop ‘til you drop on Meir Street – If you love fashion, Antwerp is your dream city. As Belgium’s style capital, it’s home to legendary designers like Dries Van Noten. Meir Street is packed with high-end boutiques, flagship stores, and trendy concept shops—perfect for a shopping spree.
• Visit the MAS Museum – More than just a museum, the MAS (Museum aan de Stroom) is an architectural wonder. It dives into Antwerp’s rich maritime history, but even if you skip the exhibits, head up to the rooftop terrace for one of the best panoramic views in the city.
• Explore the diamond district – Antwerp isn’t just stylish—it sparkles. As the diamond capital of the world, over 80% of the world’s rough diamonds pass through here.
